On the invitation of the Supreme Court of Georgia, Judges from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, together with members of the Judicial Integrity Group and representatives of civil society, participated in an international conference on Independence, Impartiality, Efficiency, Transparency, Competence - Modern challenges of judicial reform in the South Caucasus, held on April 4th and 5th, 2011 in Tbilisi, Georgia. The conference was facilitated by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The participants reflected on judicial reforms in the region in the light of international best practices in accordance with the Bangalore Principles of Judicial Conduct and instruments of the Council of Europe and identified common recommendations on future measures. The conference was concluded with the adoption of the Tbilisi Recommendations on Judicial Integrity.
